Cst. Brett Ryan

End of Watch: March 16, 2023

Constable Brett Ryan was fatally injured on March 16, 2023, while responding to a family dispute. Constable Ryan and his partner, Constable Travis Jordan, were shot by a suspect who opened fire without any warning. The two officers were transported to hospital where they were both declared deceased.


Prior to joining the Edmonton Police Service, Constable Ryan served as a paramedic with Medavie Health Services in Saddle Lake. He moved to serve Edmonton Metro, as a member of First Platoon. He also received his Firefighter I & II certificates in Crowley, Texas. 

Constable Ryan joined EPS Recruit Training Class 141 on Aug. 14, 2017. Upon graduating, he moved to West Branch, Squad 4.


Constable Ryan enjoyed golfing and volunteered with Minor Hockey in the Supervision Program and was a hockey referee. His recruit class described him as having outstanding interpersonal skills, excelling at public speaking, and staying calm in stressful situations.


Constable Ryan was 30 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and son.
