Cst. George Vaughan

End of Watch: December 5 , 1949

While attempting to start a stalled police vehicle, Constable Vaughan fell and struck his head.

 

George Vaughan was born in Bilby, Alberta, in 1926.  He served three years in the Canadian infantry before joining the Edmonton Police Department.

 

On December 5, 1949, Vaughan was standing on the rear bumper of a stalled police car while a second police car pushed it to get it going. Constable Vaughan lost his balance, tumbled from the bumper and struck his head, suffering a fractured skull. He died shortly before six a.m. at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

He died shortly before six a.m. at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. 70 uniformed police officers attended Constable Vaughan’s funeral service.

 

Constable Vaughan was 23 at the time of his death. He was survived by his mother, three brothers, and six sisters.

 

He is buried in Beechmont Cemetery.
